BOOK REVIEW:
Recently I finished reading this book by Author Viswanath Reddy Thalakola and I absolutely loved reading these life-changing series of dialogues between Siddhartha, a seeker of wisdom, and Shankara, a sage well-versed in the world's spiritual teachings. This book explores the spiritual insights from various religions, including Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism, and Judaism. This book guides spiritual seekers to incorporate these spiritual principles into daily life.
Siddhartha: So it is not about seeking God outside but recognising God within?
Shankara: Precisely, Siddhartha.
This book covers many important topics which are essential for a spiritually aligned life. It teaches us how one can honour the divine by practicing non-violence, embracing truth and integrity, staying away from theft, upholding fidelity, safeguarding the environment, practicing introspection, showing compassion, practicing moderation, living with purpose, valuing collective well-being. It also delves into becoming less materialistic, protecting the weak, and prioritizing personal development, among other principles.
Be sincere and honest in thought, word, and action.
I personally loved the dialogues between Siddhartha and Shankara when they discuss how we become reflection of that divinity by cultivating and embodying the divine qualities like love, wisdom, creation, forgiveness, kindness, peacefulness, charity, truthfulness, courage, purity and vigour. How we can honour the divine inside and how we can harmonise these divine qualities through prayer, meditation, practising introspection daily, being grateful everyday. mindfulness, forgiving yourself as well as others ( as keeping grudges clouds the heart).
I would like to mention my favourite dialogue between these two:
Siddhartha: Guruji, how do Sikh teachings emphasise the need for moderation in life?
Shankara: The Guru Granth Sahib emphasises a harmonious balance between the material and spiritual worlds. It encourages Sikhs to engage with the world, avoiding extremes of ascetic self-denial or unchecked indulgence. This philosophy is highlighted in Sikhism's core principles: Naam Japna (reciting God's name), Kirat Karna (honest living), and Vand Chakna (sharing with others). Kirat Karna emphasises the value of hard work and integrity, urging Sikhs to avoid the extremes of greed or idleness. Similarly, Vand Chakna underscores the importance of generosity, advocating that material abundance should not become an obsession but a means to support communal welfare. Collectively, these principles promote a life of balance, diligence, and community welfare.
RATING 5/5 STARS
RECOMMENDATION: I would like to recommend this book to everyone and I am sure this help them in their spiritual perfection.
